A flugel horn player who works with me frequently uses a small Audio Technica clip on, with a belt attached pre-amp. It's great for horn, as a lavalier mike for video and meetings and for acoustic guitar. It comes with a variety of clips and a substantial simi-rigid case. I bought one (around $110.00, I think), but it's at the studio, so I can't give you the model number. Check out the Audio Technica website. I've had mine for over 20 years...still going strong.
It's a current model available at Musician's Friend and music equipment retailers, so you should be able to find one and try it out. Great little durable unit!
