Thought I'd strike up the TYROS BANDWAGON again being its hype is dwindling & not seeing so much talk around here anymore?.....would love to hear about your new experiences as a pro player making the switch from T1 to T2?

Don-

I have been so busy with gigs, kids related stuff and the Holiday that I haven't seriously got to work on it. That said, here are a few initial observations.

1) The touch is heavier than on the T1. I'm guessing I can adjust that, but...its not terribly different. I could learn to live with it, which would help my fingers not go into shock when I play an acoustic piano, lol...

2) The Super Articulation voices are impressive...For me, I think I'll use Sax, trumpets, maybe the guitar the most often. I did not hear that much of a difference in the strings...The SA Sax and the Trumpets are awesome sounding!

3) I like the modified music stand holder they've used on the T2 much better than the one on T1. Hopefully, this one won't snap off anytime soon.

4) Regarding migrating my current song registrations from the T1 to the T2. A few comments.

*I tried playing a couple dozen of my T1 song registrations via a thumb drive and the results were mixed. Depending on what voices I'm using, some of my registrations are incomplete. The MP are very often not appearing and if the voice I've used on the T1 has been changed on the T2...sometimes that's an issue as well.

*So, I think the right way to do this will be to set up both Tyros' and create each song registration I have one by one. Yes, it will be tedious, but I think that will give me the best results possible. I also think I will learn more about the T2 this way than I would if I just accessed all my songs via the thumbdrive. Its a chance for me freshen and tweak some tunes.

*I've set up a couple song registrations on the T2 ... it seems they take a few seconds longer to save once I confirm the save request.

*I really like the information button that's provided for every voice.

*The "Select" button for the multipads is a nice time saver to have.

*The board seems to be heartier. Especially the screen section. T2 feels more solidly built than the T2.

*I'm going to have the cdrom and a hard drive put in for increased memory and recording purposes.

I'd love to have a couple days off back to back right now so I could really hunker down and get some work done. I have Thursday off, so hopefully there won't be too much running around so I can spend a lot of time with it.

Bill .....Thank you for the review...good luck setting up the T2....starting from scratch is what I did with mine when I owned one ....a few sleepless nites doing my homework and I was on stage giggin' with it.....for me that's the best way to really see what it can do at realtime performance operation which leaves less chance for "after tweaking"....hope to hear about your progress real soon....have a great holiday Gig season...I know I will starting today !

Hi Bill

So I'm not the only one that had a problem with the Tyros 2 key feel vs the Tyros 1?

Being primarily an organist, I thought the T1 key feel was perfect. When I got the T2 I had a major issue trying to get used to it for some time. I even considered getting a T1 again. But, after playing with it I got used to it and am happy with the touch now. I also at a later point changed the touch feel up one notch from where I had it on all the other Yamahas. I went from the softest touch to whatever the next one up is and all initial touch and aftertouch became very easy to deal with.

Maybe this was more it than getting used to the actual key feel, I'm not sure. But give the touch control a little change and you may have instant results

Other than that, now that I'm used to the touch and getting used to the other differences on the T2, it amazes and inspires me big time every time I sit down to play it. It is a real joy. The audience response to what I can get out of it is exceptionally positive.

Is the price differene between the PSR3000, Tyros 1 worth it to own a Tyros 2? For me it's a great big yes!

Best
Scott

Scott....I also had a problem getting used to the T2 key-feel.....I can't explain the way it feels the key response vs the touch setting drove me nuts until I got the right setting...I wanted to love the T2 but alas it wasn't in the cards this time around...
no biggie its just another ax for me ....although I can make the 3k sound just as good as anything out there I do look forward to whats coming up on the arranger horizon...will I buy it who knows....but it's fun to try em out. I know one thing no more silent slabs, & no more heavy units for this gigging man.....we'll see.....be happy with what you play.
