I have listened to both and have to say that I tend to agree, to the tune of buying a pair of the Mackies, and could not be happier... they saved me the cost of a sub - they are THAT good at the bottom.
If budget IS a concern, then there are a plethora of low-priced monitors out there (try Truth Audio for some amazing U.S.-made monitors) but if you are going to sit in front of a pair on a daily basis, the Mackies rule!Think ear fatique, ear fatique. I can monitor on my 824's 16 hours a day and the Makies will not hurt my ears. I have used and owned:
JBL 4311's, NS-10's, Fostex 808 ribbons (the real ones, not the junk that Fostex makes today) among others. While they were all pro studio monitors, ear fatiue was a real problem after a few hours. The mackies absolutely uncover everything and translate superbly to other systems.
