White noise seems to be the sorry story of my life.

Lately my Tyros has been giving me extremely high levels of white noise. It is obviously something internal, because even when I turn down the Trim and the Input volume, the noise remains the same. The only solution seems to be to go to "Mic Setting" and Mute the whole mic. But then of course, I can't use the Mic.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Thanks, Chony

Chony,

Go into the mic settings page, then check the Noise Gate and Compressor--make sure they are both turned on. That should sove the problem.

Thanks Gary, but that's not the problem because as you know, every time you restart the Tyros, it resets all the settings, and nevertheless, even with the compressor and noisegate reset to their on position, I still get the noise.

Secondly, noise gate wouldn't help me, bc when my voice is above the threshold, the noise would seep through ... and that noise is loud enough to be noticed even through the music and voice.

Thanks anyway, Chony

Chony,

You might want to see if turning on/off the Vocal Processor/Harmonizer has an effect on the noise.

I too, notice this adds a significant amount of white noise to the output. This is an anomolie with not just the Tyros harmonizer, but others as well.

Chony,

When all else fails, do a system reset through the functions page. If this doesn't solve the problem, then the noise could be coming either from the mic or the cable--Try switching both and let us know what happens.

You say the noise goes away when you mute the mic, therefore, it's not something within your amp hookup. But, just to be on the safe side, disconnect everything from the keyboard, including the sound system, them plug your headphones into the keyboard and listen for the white noise. If it's still present, unlplug the mic, turn the keyboard volume up and see if it is still there. If it is, they the problem may be with one of the internal boards. If this is the case, it would require a board change, which can be difficult and expensive.

Good Luck,

Gary

Damn... I was hoping you wouldn't say that Gary. Yes, even after a system reset, nothing plugged in, etc, I still get that noise... so I guess it must be a board issue. Could it possibly be some dirt? I would assume not, but I'm grasping at straws here, repairs are expensive.

Thanks, Chony.

Dirt doesn't usually cause white noise--just intermitent operation. You may want to run a complete system check and see what shows up. This is done by:

1. Power off
2. press C2# - F2 - G2# (all three together) and while keeping them depressed,
3. switch the power on.
You'll see the word "TEST" on the display

With Tempo - / + you can go to the test you want to perform. Start/Stop will start the test. Wait till a test is done!

Hope this helps diagnose the problem,

Gary
