My Peavey Spectrum Midi Bass module quit working. It was a good thing I took along my SLM bass pedals to the job for a backup. I now need another bass module to replace the Peavey. I wasn't that happy with the Peavey. I don't need 250 different bass sounds. I need two or three good ones with a knob that will allow me to adjust the amount of sustain. Anybody have any recomendations or units for sale?

Tom

That sustain knob is gonna be the hard part. Bass sustain has always been my complaint with midi pedal - I have the MidiStep and also owned a Roland PK5. If you can get past the sustain problem, Alesis sells a MicroBass module. When you find what you're looking for let me know because I would replace my present sound module for something with a sustain knob.

Tom, pretty much any synth module with front panel editing will let you adjust the sustain or anything else about a patch. Do you need to have a dedicated sustain knob or just be able to adjust the sustain to suit and then save it with the patch ? Is it something you'd change while you are performing that a sustain pedal wouldn't provide ?

You can pick up a Roland JV module second hand pretty cheap nowadays. They have a good solid bass. Just avoid the JV1010 which can only be edited with a computer which is not always convenient. While they aren't designed for bass there is nothing really that a dedicated bass module can do that a synth can't is there ? You would just have to customize the patches to be suitable for bass.

360 systems made a module that had great samples, came in tabletop and rackmount and had sustain controls built in.
I think the rack was called the midi bass?(been a long time)

Roland XV2020 - updated version of the JV-1010. Same synthesis engine as 5080, 5050, and 3080. Runs about $400 street, brand new. 1000 patches, half-rack size, and built like a little tank. Editing is via USB to a PC but the standard bass sounds would probably work well for you.

Cheap, dependable, and great-sounding.

Dave,

Thanks. A friend of mine was letting me use his 360 systems bass module. The one that is rack mounted not the little original one. It is perfect for my needs. My friend needed it back and won't sell it to me. I've been searching Ebay for one. I was hoping someone on the forum had one to sell. I'm not familier with the Novation bass station. I'll have to check it out.

Maybe the link master (Donny) can post a link to the Novation bass station.

Tom
