Has anybody tried programs such as Battery or Groove Agent to improve MIDI song drum tracks? Impressions or suggestions?

Thanks,
Glenn

I have several options. Plugsound's acoustic drum module, DR008, some commercial drum soundfonts, Super Quartet... along with a couple of others.

Of these, Plugsound is among the simplest to plug and play, and it sounds very good vs the rest. DR008 is a little more involved ( but still easy ), and with some of the add on sound kits I got for it, it probably has the best sounding drums I have at my disposal. Better than any of my hardware too.

Based on work I've heard done with it, I think BFD is probably even better, but I don't have it ( yet ).

I'm not sure how Groove Agent works, but if it is setup similar to Virtual Guitar, it likely won't be very useful for midi file playback.

The Sonic Implants drum soundfonts I have are Session Drums and Blue Jay loose Yamaha. Both are very decent and I think each cost me about 20-25 Usd or so.
