For you gig musicians, I'm curious for what the most requested songs are when you play. Maybe you don't want to play them or whatever but if you don't play them then people would be very disappointed. So you do play them, even if you hate playing them after all these years.

Yes Chuck, give them what they want, they are paying the bill.
Years ago I played Hello Dolly so many times I could say the words in reverse--Hmm not really, but there was very little joy in playing it

Today, here in south Florida, I am still having to play Y.M.C.A. it's a favorite. It is requested on most of the condo jobs. Do I like playing it--Naw.

This one is kind of subjective. For the older crowd at private parties, those ages 55 to 75 who love to dance, the Electric Slide, at least 5 polkas, Macarena, and anything by Sinatra are requested most. This is followed by Bad Leroy Brown, Mack The Knife, It's A Sin To Tell A Lie, and many of the songs of that era.

When I'm playing the barroom scene in Baltimore, where the crowds tend to be a bit younger, they seem to request late 50s to early 80s stuff, but they also request anything by Sinatra. A few that come to mind are Brown Eyed Girl, My Girl, Unchained Melody, Under The Boardwalk, and anything by Jimmy Buffett.

You can look at partial song list of mine at www.travlineasy.com and click on the various lists.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi Chuck. Excellent topic! In an effort to keep 'thread topics' as consolidated as possible, I suggest people add their most 'requested songs' list to this following earlier thread on this topic as well:
