Can anyone tell me (or point me to any earlier posts that do) what the main differences between these two keyboards are.

I've looked at the specs online but they are both so long and it's taking forever.

Same sounds and styles, for the most part.
3k:
speakers, Smart media card, USB in and out hubs, very small and lightweight, MUCH cheaper
Ty:
separate outs, 3rd RH sound, hard drive option, better key feel(although both are kinda flimsy compared to older stuff)more Foot swith options.

The Tyros is a larger piece with lots of wasted space on the sides. The 3k is more compact. As far as I know, the mega sounds and styles all swith between the 2 with no drawbacks too.

Also, the 3K requires you to go into menus instead of having buttons for certain functions, including the vocal harmonizer, mic settings dsp variation.
The Tyros has a hard drive capability but lacks the thumb drive and memory card slot.
The Tyros has a larger screen that tilts for the optimum viewing angle.
I'm sure there are other differences which I don't recall right now.

How about the effect section? The Tyros has the best DSP I have ever heard in an arranger keyboard and we all know how the effects are important for the final sound.

This whole comparison reminds me of another one, between the PSR 2000 and the PSR 9000; when I played the 2000 I noticed that, even if the waveforms were the same, the single instruments sounded better (richer maybe?) in the 9000.
Guess what? The difference was in the DSP.

Thanks for your question. I am in the process of choosing either the psr 3000 or the Tyros and this was helpful to me as well.
It's a tough decision but I think I am leaning toward the Tyros.
Are you buying a new keyboard as well?

I was having the same decision I went with the 3000 because of the better usb interface and storage with flash drive and the smart media no more floppies. welcome to the 20th century.

To me it makes an incredible difference.

Well if they wanted to bring us to the 21st century that could have left a couple of the dreaded disappearing buttons from the 2000. They could have just improved the 2000 without taking anything away.

Thanks to all who responded - I didn't realise that the 3000 doesn't have aftertouch - This isn't the end of the world as lots of sampled voices now have the instruments' natural vibraato sampled as well but I do like to have as much controll on the voices to produce the most realistic instrumental sounds.

It didn't sound as though the extra for the Tyros justified spending the dosh but I've just located a used one at a great price so I'll go for that one.....
