I was listening to some of the SD-1's demos and was blown away at how good the drum kits are.. The drum kit used for the blues demo is absolutely stunning. The snare on that kit is one of the best I have ever heard on a keyboard. It's amazing how life life the sounds are on keyboards now. Out of all the syths I've used I still have to say that some of the best acoustic instruments I've heard to date are on arrangers. Yamaha finally got smart and carried over some of these great voices from their arrangers to the motif line....

The demo's I've heard of the SD1 are pretty impressive Squeak. If I had the bucks and maybe if I were able to see it and liked it, I'd consider the SD1 because it would give me yet another board with sounds from a different manufacturer, but my funds are going to go toward the new ES, and after that I'm going more toward the soft synth route starting with Reason and the B4 ( Outstanding B3 emulator ) .

I wanted very much to like the Roland Fantom because it has a very cool OS and it would have given me the base sounds from the "big three".. Yamaha, Roland and Korg. I also like the VA76 in some ways too. I just didn't find the VA / Fantom sounds to be up to par to the Motif / PSR's or the PA80 / Triton line.

I really have gotten more into the 2k and despite my constant complaining about key feel, I love some of those sounds. The PA80 to me had better acoustic presets than it's parent the Triton, probably because more attention was paid to the setups and effects on these sounds, but the TS2 surely bridged the gap and maybe surpassed the PA80 for acoustics. I think the gap gets closer as time goes on. The Motif has a lot of those excellent sounds used in the Yamaha arrangers, but mine also has the powerful AN150 board, which does some wicked synth stuff.

My wish list is long, but my funds don't match. It isn't the most practical board for what I do, but I really really want an Access Virus to go along with the setup. I love analogs / analog modelers with lotsa knobs...

Hi Squeak,

I'm going to post more mp3's on my website using the SD1 exclusively .
Have a listen to my tune touched , I added vocal drum kits to the "chorus" . The percussion sounds are from a latin style , I isolated the drum part I wanted to use and recorded that to another track, same with the vocal kit . You can really hear the vocal drum's on my tune dejavu'that will be posted soon.

Dano

Drums are some of the best !

Hey Bluesplayer , I just got the Motif 6ES in yesterday . AJ was playing around with it and the megavoice technology has been carried over into the ES . Better Knobs and way more arpegiators . Kool keyboard for studio application .

PS... a used sd1 is available. Dano

Hi DanO,

I just layed my hands on the ES for the first time today... wow.. the megavoices sounded great with the arps. I played a lot of the voices. Many are the same from the original version but there are plenty of new ones.

While it is a Motif OS ( what a steep learning curve it was for me ), aside from the new features, the rest is pretty much laid out like the original, so it will be easy for me this time around.

I had already decided to upgrade to the ES, and today did nothing to change my mind. Most of the add ons are things I'll use in the studio. For live play, the original version was more than adequate.
