Today and for the first time I played the PSR9000PRO. I was shocked that many of the sounds and styles are identical to PSR740.

If this is the case, that would completely change my opinion about PSR740! and also about PSR9000PRO.

Would somebody elaborate on this?

Yes, this is what I've heard as well. But, the 740 offers NO hard drive option and NO sound edit options. These are the 2 reasons I am thinking about upgrading. I really want the hard drive - it's so much easier to deal with than floppies.

Pleeeease! The 740 is NOT a mini 9000. It sounds similar in some tones but you give up alot to jam all that sound into a cheap plastic box for thousand bucks. The new 2000 seems to be a closer match if that's what you're thinking, but the difference between the PSR9k and the 9kpro is even pretty substantial. Let's leave the 740 on the toy shelf where it belongs.

You can call it a toy if you like, but that dosen't make it so.
There are a good many Pro. musicians on this forum that own 740's! Some of them can probably strike about as good a lick as you
on their toy 740's!

Thanks for sharing. The reason I am asking is because I selected several styles and sounds in PSR9KPRO that I know very well from PSR740 and they sounded identical. For example, piano Ballad, Guitar Ballad. I understand that there tons of feature that are different such as, synth, sequencing, so on and so forth... but still do they at least share most of styles and sounds?

The 9000Pro has 48MB ROM plus a physically modeled organ versus 12 MB ROM for the PSR-740. The sounds of the PSR-740 are the same as for the PSR-8000. The extra 32MB seems largely devoted to some exceptional piano, drums, and vocal sounds, and extra live! and cool! sounds.

You guys are all missing my point. I LOVE tiys. I do. I plan on buying a PSR2000 as soon as it is available. I need a toy for lighhtweight 1 hour jobs. I don't thumb my nose at ANY product that can be utilized in a creative way. All I am saying is that you can't compare the two. It's Lincoln's and Pinto's. Top sirloin & ground chuck. Both good - both in their own way. The 740 was never made as a pro instrument. It is a scaled down version of a pro instrument made to appeal to a lower demand market. I played a Korg i5s for a long time, and that is NOT a pro kb either. In the hands of a craftsmen - the tool can do wonders, but let's not split hairs. The 740 does just what it should. Nothing more. As for the patterns and accomniments - they sound the same because the XG sounds are used for the backings. They are the weakest link in the PSR series. The panel voices are what separates the models, and therefore - you get the heirerarchy. The 740/1000/2000 will be the intermediate stuff as long as they keep making the pro models. It's not a bad thing. It's just the way it is.
I'm a big fan of intermediate gear. You couldn't pay me to use a Triton or a K2600 on the job either, so go figure. They're both pro boards right? It's all about function and features. If all you need are omm paa beats - even the low end stuff can sound pretty good doing the auto chord stuff. It's when you start PLAYING the thing that you need more features.

If all they made was PSR-9000 & 9000pro, there would many of us who couldn't afford a
