I'm a bit confused because it's NOT possible to change or select ANOTHER accomp. style while playing the chord progression in the Song Creator's: "Chord" page.
The purpose of the 'Chord List'feature MarcK's talking about (page 99 of the owner's manual) is for entering a specific song's chord progression & auto accomp sections (MainABCD, break etc) in step record mode.
This 'Chord Step Record' feature helps to ensure precise timing (especially in situations where a song may have many complicated tight chord changes) since the chords progression is recorded separately BEFORE the other keyboard parts (Main, Left, layer) are recorded in.
Once the chords, style selection, & parts are step recorded, you can then expand (export) the data into the PSR2000's normal song sequencer section, where you can then play or record the keyboard melody parts: main, layer left parts.
The chords 'changes' are displayed in the PSR2000's display window because they are stored as part of the midi file as special Yamaha specific System Exclusive Meta Events. These include FF (hexadecimal) in the initial byte of it's sysex command string. Unfortunately this Yamaha specific chord data is not recognized by an external sequencer program such as Cakewalk, Logic, Cubase, etc, because PC midi sequencing programs only read standard SysEx messages which begin with FO (hexidecimal). Because the above software sequencers do not recognize this Yamaha specific Meta Event Chord data, this data will not be retained when you load a PSR midi file and resave it.
This leads to my specific wish of wanting to edit in a PC sequencer (Cakewalk, Cubase, Logic, etc) PSR keyboard created midi files (which include chords). I want to be able to perform (sing along with vocal harmonizer) while the song plays back. The chord changes are needed because this is what triggers the vocal harmonizer to follow the harmonies of the song.
I can only hope that Yamaha will change its chord & lyric messages to midi standard recognizable sysEX messages begining with FO instead of FF (which can only be read by Yamaha keyboards). This would make Yamaha PSR keyboard created midi files which include chords & lyrics universally recognizable by software sequencers too.
