I'm not a salesperson for BIAB, but this is the holy grail of features for musicians!!!

"Chords from MP3 ("Audio Chord Wizard"). This is one of the all-time most requested features for Band-in-a-Box, and now this amazing wizard automatically figures out the chords from any MP3, WAV, or WMA (Windows Media) audio file and displays them in Band-in-a-Box. Just load in any MP3, WAV or WMA file and you'll instantly see the chords in Band-in-a-Box."

Has anyone tried this as yet?

Windows Media Player has had the ability to do this for a while now. There is a free plug-in available called MuseOn which displays the nearest probably chord to a WAV, MP3 or WMA file.

Wow, that's supercool if it works well. If it figures out chords beyond very simple ones.

Need to learn a new song ?

Suppose you could play a MP3 into your keyboard and have the chord changes displayed on the screen. You go to your gig, select a style and the chords are available ....

power tracks pro has had the feature to read chords from midi files, in my opinion that didn't work very well especially with anything more than a simple tune. Does anyone know if it works any better with the mp3 in band in a box.
I'd like to have it display someting like "under my skin"

Well,
reading the chords from a midifile is relatively easy, because you have all the notes clearly laid out (even if even this sometimes leaves room to interpretation, depending on the note the bass is playing), but "guessing" the notes being played within an MP3 or another audio file and then "dishing out" the corresponding chord, well... to me that's pretty amazing and -being technically illiterate- almost borders with magic.

Wait a minute... I just discovered that BIAB 2007 goes beyond just figuring out the chords to an MP3/WAV/WMA audio file - it also has a feature called "Audio Piano Roll" which displays "many of the notes found in the audio file" (quote from BIAB Upgrade User Guide pg. 6). Crazy. It looks similar to the piano roll editing you can do on SMF's with a sequencer. I'm sure the audio file it's analyzing has to be somewhat simplistic for this to work but the Audio Piano Roll is a feature I've never seen anywhere else.

Suppose the keyboard could remix the audio file with a arrangement ?

Yamaha is looking to GPS for their next high end arranger customers... There seems to be a large number of tyros owners who have a tough time making it to the gigs ...

DonM needs one. Actually, he needs a tracking device, a bug. He sometimes discovers he has no keyboard when he gets to a gig. His would be a two-bug bug. There would be one in his van and one in his keyboard. It would be linked to his online calendar. If he is in his van two hours before showtime and his keyboard is not in the van, it would automatically call his cellphone, laugh hysterically and tell old fart jokes.
