"Windows Media Player has had the ability to do this for a while now. There is a free plug-in available called MuseOn which displays the nearest probably chord to a WAV, MP3 or WMA file."

That's great Esh!

I never knew that - I'm looking for that plug-in as we speak (having trouble finding it though!)

That's a capability I'm dreaming of for a long time, in my attempts to learn some jazz pieces (no chord progression table for them). It remains to be proven that it's effective. If it works then it's fantastic. Some time ago I did a little research and found some software that was effective for audio files containing only one instrument. The main difficulty until then was separating the several instruments and vocals in an audio file. This possibility is very exciting, IF effective!

Here's the info about the plugin for Windows Media Player that Jim's refering to: http://dbhovel.com/Extras/MuseOn.aspx . Before getting too excited, I sugest reading the section "Considerations for Using MuseOn". Extracting the chords from a signal analysis is not a piece of cake. I wish the section with "advanced information" had more details about the process of extraction. -- José.

There is a nice little demo video on the BIAB web site that shows how the Chord extract works on an Mp3 or Wav file. Looks like it works just dandy to me. It even figures the Bass lines and the tempo of the song. Once you do this, printing a lead sheet is a piece of cake.
