I spoke to Yamaha USA today and found out that the first shipment of Tyros 2 keyboards has arrived and is in QT (quality testing) right now. The date has moved up from November to possibly this month.

I wonder what this so called 'quality testing' procedure entails. I would have assumed that the keyboards arrived from Yamaha Japan in a factory sealed box 'already quality tested' at the factory in Japan. Does this mean Yamaha USA has to open up all the boxes and re-inspect and/or modify each keyboard to meet some special US specification, or to add an English version User's manual or insert special literature? I would have expected all this could have been done in Japan BEFORE it left the factory originally. I remember my Tyros1 had to undergo a similar quality testing at Yamaha USA before it was finally released to US dealers.

Can someone possibly shed some light on this so called QUALITY TESTING procedure? Do other keyboards manufactered in Japan (and abroad) have to undergo a 'quality testing' procedure in the US as well, before being released to the dealers?

Thanks. - Scott

I think one of the reasons they 're-inspect' them is to make sure UPS or Fedex, etc. hasn't damaged them during transport. Also I would think they want to make sure that the trip overseas by Freighter hasn't damaged them either.

I think it's a good idea to re-inspect them upon arrival at the Buena Park facility. It doesn't hurt for one and to re-inspect them gives the assurance to both Yammie and the customer that quality control is attended to and each and every Tyros(2) is in 'ship' shape and ready to be delivered to Retail outlets.

And don't worry either. Yamaha U.S. personnel are experts in re-packaging products so you would never know the difference between the boxed version and the "re-boxed" version that hits the stores.

Best regards,
Mike

Rumor has it that the tyros name was spell incorrectly on the 1st 100 keyboards.
They have arrived as ROSTY 2

they'll have to order new owners manuals too.

Bummer ....

I'm guessing they have to pull the ty1 case off and replace it with the ty 2 and change about 3 different components plus the rubber key strips. They should start selling the 2 million quality control/update kits (already in stock) in about 60 days for $29.99 ($39.99 if you want it in black, with 76 keys) Wouldn't that frost you over......HE HE HE.

Lies, lies, lies, don't nobody take me serious, I'm looking forward to buying one, can't make up my mind to do it now, or wait, till you guys work out the bugs! I'm impressed, but not so impressed that I can't wait a bit more, seems like I've been waiting for this for 2 or 3 years.....

WAIT! If mine arrives as ROSTY 2, it might likely be viewed as a rare 'collectors item' and might eventually command, on the Antiques Road Show , perhaps 100x the current price paid. Hey, better 'ROSTY 2' than 'RUSTY 2', right? No metal parts. - Scott
