A few of the guys over at our PSR Songs Group have just created a new song about Arranger Synths.
You can hear Simon Williams singing it in an MP3 here:
www.psrworld.com/mp3/HighTechMusic_final.mp3 Our Will Stewart wrote the music and the lyric was done by John Traves. To whet your appetite, here are the lyrics:
Hi-Tech Music
I once had a piano, it had many years of use,
It was made of rosewood and iron, and bits of Canadian spruce.
It had a couple of pedals, ebony and ivory keys,
All you did was open the lid and it was ready if you please.
It had a thing to hold the music, right before your eyes,
You had no doubt they’d thought that out, that came as no surprise.
It was a beautiful bit of craftsmanship, it really had some class,
It even had two candlesticks made of polished brass.
I fancied something modern, but I didn’t know what to do,
So I went down to a shop in town to look for something new.
The salesman was quite helpful, he showed me lots of things,
Including a sort of piano, the sort that has no strings.
‘I think you’ll like the sound of this, its the greatest advance in years.’
Then he started to play it, and I couldn’t believe my ears.
He played this little piano, it sounded like just like a grand,
But it wasn’t just the piano, I could also hear a band.
Horns were doing do-wa-wops , arpeggios in the reeds,
Strummers were strumming, the drummer was drumming, all at incredible speeds.
I stood there in amazement, my mouth just hung agape,
‘How on earth do you do that mate? Is it all recorded on tape’?
He explained it was done with samples, computers, tables and bytes,
I didn’t know what he was talking about, but I liked all the buttons and lights.
So I told him I would buy one, but then he turned me down flat,
He insisted I bought the bigger one, I’d be more pleased with that.
The next day, when it was delivered, I rushed to plug it in.
But when I started to play it, good gracious - what a din?
I switched it off and thought a bit, took another look,
Then I spent a couple of weeks reading the instruction book.
I did once find a fabulous sound, its driving me insane,
I’ve tried in vain but it can’t be found, and I’d love to hear it again.
Its got Midi In, Midi Out, Its even got Midi Thru,
I’d love to know what its all about, I wonder what they do?
Keyboards are such strange creatures, with knobs and dials and handles,
But they lack in certain features, there’s nowhere to put your candles!
I phoned to tell the man I bought it from it was more difficult than I thought,
He agreed that it was, indeed, a complicated model I’d bought.
He suggested that, as a favour, he’d sell me this device,
And because of all my problems he’d do it at a special price.
So I just can’t wait for tomorrow when the delivery man will call,
When I plug in this new computer I’ll have no more problems at all!
