Anyone upgrade without installing the fan kit? I purchased both the fan kit and memory but don't understand why the fan kit is required to upgrade the ram.

Som eupgrades like P-RAM and extra ROM blocks generate more heat, so they suggest you get the fan kit with any upgrade. If you dont you will overheat your synth and void your warranty.
