Well,
I hit a milestone today. I bought another 9kPRO this afternoon, and a P-120 as well.(Yamaha 88 key weighted deal). I set up the 9k next to the Tyros and the difference in key size is not all I noticed. here's my findings (good and bad)

Tyros - longer than the PRO, but narrower. Also, not as firm. The downward throw is shorter, and the expression is easier for me on the PRO.

PRO - shorter from front to back but wider white keys. The black keys seem the same on both. Great expressive action..... even spacing and perfect balance.

Tyros - I noticed that there is an uneven spacing between some of the keys. Wider gaps between certain notes in the scale. ( in each octave!) Weird anomaly, but maybe the reason that I keep "finding the cracks" so often. The feel is so much lighter and mushier than the PRO as well. After 2 minutes on the PRO, the Tyros feels like a 2000 again. It's VERY noticeable. The Tyros is quieter (mechanically) but I prefer the better action to quiet. I won't be able to record vocals at the same time with the PRO, but I rarely do that anyway. (unless it's a scratch take)

Styles - the Tyros has 300, the PRO has 100 ..... edge to the Ty.
Organs - the PRO has models, the Ty does not - edge to the Pro
76 keys .... you decide. I prefer 61, but this is a studio piece - no big deal.
Weight - ugh ..... again, I won't carry the PRO - it'll sit in the studio.

All these things have been addressed before, so I won't beat the dead horse anymore, but the key width and the uneven spacing was news to me and I thought I'd share it. After about 15 minutes on the PRO, I remembered why I liked it so much the first go-round. The Tyros has improvements in what IT can play, but the PRO lets ME play better. That appeals to my sense of order and priority.

So, the Ty is headed out to pasture, the PRO will reside in the studio and until I find something more convenient .... I'll suffer with the 2100 on the job. Maybe I'll start doing more piano style work and bring the P120 for a while. The laptop is always on duty for dance tunes ..... I really don't NEED an arranger at all....... Sure would be nice to have a legit sized kb at work again though.

BTW - I'm getting another PA80 in trade for the Tyros deal - 6GB HD, vocal board, no case ....... call if you need one.

Dave , want another 2100 for backup? I had it..I used it last night on the job, and some things are so bad it shames me..After playing the EM2000 on weekends and the G1000 at the casinos, there is no room for the 2100 except home[ even at home I rather use the G1000] .BTW the G is less than 20 lbs heavier, that isn't that much..And there is no getting use to the PSR keys as long as I play the Rolands along side of Yamaha. I even think your Tyros key feel stinks, I don't notice any or little difference between it amd the 2100..Well I am going to set up my G1000 and relax again...

According to Yamaha the Tyros has the same modeled drawbars as the 9000PRO.

I didn't compare that closely, but at first listen ....., the PRO has the edge. maybe if I do an acurate A/B test.....
It won't change the key problems though !

Might want to watch the polyphony on the 9000 Pro when using the modeled drawbar organ - it gets devoured so much that you really can't use it effectively with the styles or with midi files on the same board. BTW: the 9000 Pro only wieghs a little over 4 pounds more than the P-120... if you're considering taking the P gigging then you're not far from the same weight with the 9k.

Uncle Dave,,,
Congrats on the new 9000 Pro, I still love my Pro.
I've been wondering if I should buy another 9000 Pro to
have a spare, or if I should just wait for the next generation boards to come out.
What do you think would be best ?

Sounds like Monty Hall's coming into the Synthzone.

Hey Denny,

there are whispers in Germany about a new generation coming out soon. Tyros 2 or something.
The Pro is almost due to be replaced.
Love mine too, so the wait is no wait at all.

Hi: Eric
Thanks for the info, about the whisper, I will wait for a while yet to see
what happens. Maybe Tyros 2 will be built like the Pro, then I will be happy.
