This is probably an old topic, but now I'm interested. I want to funnel all of my midi files through my PSR2000, but sometimes I get that darn Yamaha drum track (and others) problem. Things aren't where they belong and everything sounds like a piano. How can I fix this permanently? I want to abandon my SC88 as my midi source and go exclusively with the 2k. And, does downloading the 2k instr. file from Cakewalk help?

Hold onto your SC88, you will need it if you want the SMF's to sound right..It's not going to happen with the 2k...BTW, you are probally sending system exclusive[GS] within your files that the SC88 will read and the Yamaha can not read..You will have to enter program changes as well as other parameters ..as for the drums ,no such luck..you already own the best playback source [SC88 or any other GS], use it and be happy..

Thanks Fran. I kind of knew that already, but I was hoping to lighten the gear box. With the addition of the VR760, I was hoping to delegate the midi stuff to the 2k, but I've already experienced the nightmare of trying to play midi files thru it (and many other Yammy instruments). I too am a Roland fan and feel that the SC's and such are the easiest and best to use.

Well, maybe if I can ever find a decent, live soft-arranger I'll warehouse the 2k for good. As nice as some of its sounds are, I really don't use them or need them that much.

Cassp,

Do you have the same problem when you hook up your laptop and fire the midi files through the keyboard using the Host Cable and Vanbasco's Karaoke Player?

Gary, I don't normally use VanBasco - I use Cakewalk. I like the load features better. My experience with Yamaha stuff (2k and QY1000) is that sys ex stuff makes it switch to that "channel 9 drums andeverything else" syndrome. Once the file starts playing, it's too late and all you have is a big cachaphony of piano stuff. This even happens using disks. Would VanBasco change any of this?

I don't use the TO Host port anymore because I only have USB ports and I can no longer use that serial pin.

The only problem I ever have playing midi files on the Yamaha is on a few songs I get handclaps on the drum track. It can be easily edited.
If you get a chance, you might change the 2000 for the 2100 as it has USB ports and you can play the midi files from the laptop.

First, If you put a "GM On" message at the top of the track, the PSR2000 will behave like any other GM tone generator.

Second, If you want to use the PSR2000 "Panel Voices", the Cakewalk, .ins file will enable you to do that with very little trouble.
