Just had a horrible thought - with the arrival of the K2600 series, does that mean that the K2000VP has been/will be discontinued? I really need to know quickly because I`m trying to raise the dough for one and if it is been discontinued, then I`m just gonna have to let my flexible friend bear the brunt of the cost

The K2000 is not being discontinued. In fact Young Chang has been manufacturing them just as diligently as they did in 1991. The new K2000's are the blue VP models. Young Chang has recently released a new OS for the K2000 (v3.87). The best person to talk to if you have a continuing concern is either Mike Martin or David Fox.

Hi M-3,

Chris is right. It is not being discontinued. However, at some point in time, it will. On the Kurzweil mailing list, someone from Kurzweil (I think it was Mike Martin but am not completely sure), said that 3.87 will most likely be the last OS version for this synth/sampler.

That does not mean that Kurz will not make anymore. It just means that there will be no further development. Stepping up to the K2500 and K2600 is quite a leap in terms of $$$. If you don't have that kind of money but like the sound of the K2000VP and its features, then don't hesitate. The Kurz's are quite powerful as they are.

If you are curious, you can search the archive for the mailing list. That particular message came in about a month or 2 ago. I believe the searchable archives link can be found at Tony Palermo's launchpad site (link here on SynthZone to that site).

HTH,
Fernando
