Hello People! Iīm looking to upgrade from my PSR3000 to Tyros2. Here I canīt have any access to a Tyros2 so I need your help: I downloaded all Tyros2 demos and manuals and as far I see almost the same data for both machines. Tyros2 calls its drums as Live! are them really stereo samples? Also, the basses from PSR3000 are really poor. Are the Tyros2 basses the same? Thanks a lot for any info you could shere!! Regards Jose Pereira

Jose,
Did you adjust the PSR-3000s global EQs? This is very important to obtain high quality, rich sounds from the newer Yamaha keyboards. Same is true for the Tyros2 as well.

The Tyros 2 drums are better than the ones on the 3000, but they still don't have that really Live sound. Adjusting the e.q.s and levels will get you close. I still think the Yamaha arrangers tend to sound like CD recordings, where some of the others, such as Roland, Ketron, Korg sound more like live drummer and bass players. It's a personal choice. Both are good, but in different ways. DonM

Hi again What i want to know if the Tyros2 drums are really stereo samples, because the PSR3K ones are not. I know that Yamaha calls its stereo sounds as "Live!" and as far as I read in the manuals, they call their drum kits as Live!kits. The thing is that in none of the demos I canīt really hear any drum sound in stereo. Iīm aware of the phase cancellation of some fake stereo sounds from PSRīs but I come from Motif ES and Roland Fantom X and those keayboards really have stereo samples. Iīm really hoping that Tyros2 have better sounds... Thanks for your comments

When I owned earlier PSR's [2100], the drums were not stereo panned, or at least did not show any definition of the instruments in a stereo field..I doubt that has changed with the new models..They don't sound like they are different..
As for Stereo samples, I think Roland does have true stereo samples on the Fantom..I believe Yamaha relies on stereo effects to achieve the sound they are looking for...that is why the phase cancellation makes the Yamahas sound so poor..
Before you Yammie guys get all excited..go back and read that previous Yamaha owners agree with my statements..

Hi Nick G So, have you the oportunity to compare both keyboards side by side? My only reference are the manuals for both machines. Tyros2 drums are "Live!kits" but PSR3K are "regular" or simple kit. When I hear the demo that plays first Tyros drums (same as PSRK3)then Tyros2 drums, I only hear different samples but still in mono. Basses almost have the same programs, only difference is "Electric Bass" in Tyros2 instead of "Finger Bass". Are those the same samples with different names? Both are "Cool" voices but the Finger bass in PSR3K is so thin. The only bass in PSR3K that sounds poorly decent is "Mellow Finger" but also doesnīt have any high frequency information... When a sample is good it donīt needs any EQ or a lot of effects to sound decent.Well, at least compared to other keyboards.OK, OK, I used to be a bass player... And when Iīm asking for Stereo samples I mean that ones that have full side by side separation or "color differences" between left and right sounds, not simple mono samples panned left to right (as the toms) Once Again, Thanks for your comments and help and PLEASE, excuse my poor english!! Jose

I owned a PSR 3000 for about 9 months. loved it so much.. I have now had the T2 about 6 months and I still get impressed by its sound everytime I play something on it.
the drums are farrr better and the basses are more punchier

sorry for the double post.
doesnt matter what people say about stereo/mono , the sound that my ears hear is all I care about. And the sound is definitely distinct between the two boards (PSR and T2)...
