I have the oppurtunity to purchase a used K2000.

What are the differences between the K2000 and K2000VP? Is it worth holding out for a VP or are the differences minor?

both units are k-2000's. the vp is a stripped down version. it has the current operating system 3.54 but it lacks the orchestal rom, contemporary rom , sampling option, p-ram and fan kit. check and see what options the other unit has and compare prices. all 2000's can be updated. if you can swing the extra bucks, look at a k2vx or k2vxs. they come loaded except for sample ram.

Let me clarify.
There is essentially NO difference between a K2000 and a K2000VP, though it is likely that the K2000VP will have a current OS.

The name was changed to K2000VP when the price dropped and when they started packaging it with 2MB of sample RAM and the 30 disk Analog collection. Otherwise they are identical.

Like the K2000, the K2000VP can be expanded with the optional ROM blocks (orchestal and contemporary) and each can take 64MB of sample RAM for loading in samples via SCSI or floppy. The sampling option itself is optional.

The K2VX does come standard with the optional ROM blocks and sequencer memory (PRAM) expansion and you do save money by going this route.
