I'm considering purchasing a K2000VP for use with my Roland XP-80 and Nord Lead 2, I'm mainly interested in industrial,experimental and classical music, can anyone with real world experience with this instrument give me some info? both Pro's and Con's

Thanks
Pope

Hiya!

I got a Kurzweil K2000VP, and I've owned one since March this year. I've used it on a couple of live gigs and it's a great tool. The sound quality is superb! I've made a couple of "NordLead Emulations" since I can't afford a NL2 right now .. :-(

I use mine as a master along with my Roland JV-1080 and Korg 01/W (and some other stuff) and it's working great. I mostly use if for playback samples that I've made myself or "stolen" elsewhere ..

Well, give it a try .. it's a really mean-music-machine! :-)

Regards
// Melvin

You should check out Sonicstate's Gas Station and take a look at the Kurzweil discussion there - it's filled with complaints about lemons, piss-poor technical support from trhe manufacturer, etc. Personally, I just recommended a K2KVP to a friend over a XP-60, because of the way it can import samples even without the sampling option installed. The effects are weaker than on newer units, but in terms of flexibility and power it can't be beaten in my book - except for the K2500! Dependability has never been an issue for me with them, so perhaps it just depends on whether you get a lemon or not... Good luck making your decision.

The negative posts at sonic state were primarily in relation to the PC88. One person had trouble with K1000s, one had trouble with his K2000. Recently there have been quite a few positive posts by "experienced" users which seems to have muffeled all the others.

I own A K2VXs and I swear by it. It's a great machine. But if I were you, I would get as many options as I could afford on a K2k when you first purchase it. The K2vp is kind of a stripped down version and it's really hard to drop the bucks into it every time you decide that you could realy use an option. Also Sweetwater Sound has got great tech. support.

The K2000 is great for industrial techno.
I myself am using the K2000 in an electronica industrial band right now.
However if you are also looking to do
classical music, I would strongly recommend a K2500. The reasoning is
POLYPHONY. The k2000 only has 24
notes, the k2500 has 48 notes.
