I was told that Roland keybed is notorious. One person had bad keys after moderate use (not heavy by any means). Bad keybed on the RD series and also couple other older models

Anyone care to comment ?

How about the newer model G-70, etc

thks

My previous Roland boards have had excellent reliable keybeds. In fact the general Roland construction is better than so others...no names.

According to a technician friend of mine, (who works on primarlily Yamahas and Rolands) the Roland keybed is every bit as durable as the Yamaha's.

The RD series is generally considered to be very reliable...the earlier models using the extended spring mechanism weren't as robust as the compressed spring rotary oil damped action (SK-6)that followed...the pianos with the latter had an "S" suffix after the model number...eg RD300s.

Early PA-4 Hammer actions, as on the FP-8) were also prone to get noisy, but this was soon rectified.

Hope this helps.

Ian

I've never heard of Roland having unreliable keybeds. They've always been known for having good action. Now some of their cheaper models of course will have a lower quality keybed, but nothing so cheap that reliability is an issue.

You've been told? By whom?

Notorious... You would have heard something about that by now if they were 'notorious'..

It wouldn't have been a salesman trying to sell you something else, would it? At least, there is something (George Kaye excepted) that REALLY deserves the word 'notorious'!
