Hi,

I know it's been discussed before, but I tried searching and couldn't see the issue being addressed directly.

When I connect my Tyros to my laptop running XP, the connection will be terminated after several minutes of use (randomly), and I won't be able to re-establish connection unless I reboot Windows. The problem is both when doing file transfers, and when using midi.

I'm using all the latest drivers, as far as I'm aware.

Can anybody help?

zalmi, your symptoms sound near exactly to what I had experienced with my Tyros. Following a USB hardware replacement/upgrade by Yamaha Corp, all Tyros USB flakey connectivity problems have been resolved. The USB connection is now functioning reliably ALL THE TIME. I recommend contacting Yamaha Europe about this as they now have an official hardware fix for this. It is covered under warranty.

Here's a link to one of many threads where I discussed the problem, as well as finally . . . the solution : http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/008856.html

I contacted Yamaha today, and after being transferred five times (!) I spoke to someone who's meant to be one of the top techinicians or something.

He said I should contact the dealer, and they will send it to Yamaha. He said that he'ld just come from an international Yamaha seminar which included discussion about Tyros, and that he'ld never heard of the USB problem before. Strange. When I mentioned what I'ld seen on the forum he said that you can't always rely on forums (I know - a chutzpa!).

Anyway I'm contacting the dealer tomorrow. We'll see (now I've also got the mic problem which I posted in a new thread).

Zalmi and Scott,
I've been follwoing this thread and it's happend to my Tyros also. I can't get connected to my laptop at all.

Scott said:
""It's also IMPORTANT to note that (according to Steve Deming), Tyros-PC USB connectivity (with Tyros OS 1.40) is now only possible via 'Mass Storage (HDD) mode, and no longer possible via 'File Utility' mode. On the other hand, the 'Tyros Voice Editor" utility continues to work via USB.""

What is the Mass Storage Mode and how do I execute it? I have upgraded the OS to v1.40 (The connection worked then).

The Tyros is being recognized via USB but not by the "File Utility" software.

Any suggestions before I call the dealer?

Ron

Salmi: that's simply AMAZING to hear that Yamaha Europe is claiming to have no knowledge of the Tyros USB problem. Afterall, it was Yamaha Europe that was the FIRST to come up the hardware update (USB Port replacement & diode (2) installation solution for it, as evidenced by Reinhard's (Elcanal) posts on the following SVP forum, way back on 6/1/2004: http://www.svpworld.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3098&KW=Scottyee

When I initially complained to Yamaha USA about the problem, they too gave me an answer similar to yours, and it wasn't until I provided the above thread link that they finally (after months) acknowledged the problem, and provided me the above fix, and thankfully covered by Yamaha warranty.

At this point, I recommend that you email Steve Deming at Yamaha USA, and perhaps he can point to the appropriate person at Yamaha Customer Service in your Country to get the USB problem fixed. Contact Steve Deming at: ycasupport@yamaha.com

Ron, to put the Tyros in USB "Mass Storage" mode, you need to hold down the MusicFinder button (blue) while booting up the Tyros. When functioning properly, the Tyros HD will be seen in Windows 'My Computer' as an external HD device, and you can simply drag, drop & copy files back and forth between the Tyros & your PC.

Interestingly enough, on Steve Deming's personally owned Tyros, the USB Port hardware UPDATE corrected the USB connectivity in "File Utility" mode, but not "Mass Storage Mode". For whatever reason, the USB Port hardware has COMPLETELY solved ALL the USB connectivity problems I was experiencing: in BOTH "File Utility" AND "Mass Storage Modes".

Zalmi & Ron: If I can be of any further assistance in helping you get your Tyros USB problem resolved, let me know. Good luck.

Scott,
You 'Da Man! That fixed it. I was able to access the Mass Storage Mode and for some reason the file utility mode now works too. Thanks for the help and a big MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.
