I always get blasted for this because, for some unkown reason, most think it lacks punch but, my favorite has to be a Matrix12. There is just too much going on inside this synth. When I programed, it was much like a modular because of the numerous modulation sources available per single patch plus the ability to hook all 12 voices together. You can end up with 24 oscillators, 60 envelopes, 60 lfos
12 ramps......much going on. Maybe the complexity scares folks.

I really like the old 4 and 8 voice SEM-based beasts. You cant get much richer sounding than that(except a CS80). As far as owning one goes, I'm probably going to buy an OB8/DMX/DSX. I think the OB8 sounds smoother and not as 'fat' as the OBxa. Some people say they cant tell the difference. Anyhow, how much does an OB system in good condition go for? $1000 or so?

I have seen many Oberheims scattered around in the various classified sections and the prices vary. I recently sold a Matrix12 for $2600. I have seen Xpanders for ~$1800, Matrix6s $400 to $500, 6Rs ~$300, OBX $650, OB8 $900 (not to be confused with "8Voice") ***If any anybody has an "OB 8 Voice" for sale please contact me with details:

I recently heard for the 1st time an OBXa. This IS one fat sounding synth. The Matrix 12 isn't quite as fat sounding, but as mentioned the powerful modulation capabilities make it one of my all time favorite analog polysynths. Put the Matrix 12 in unison mode and it will peel the plaster!

I'm curious how the OBXa compares in sound to a 4 or 8 voice SEM synth. Has anyone compared these two?
