. . . on the SD1? I know they have a special technique, but is it such a secret that the other companies can't figure it out?
I'm serious. I just don't hear that live sound on the others. I loved the Tyros and many of the features, but the Ketron drums just blow it away, as far as sounding Live.

Don, perhaps you may put in your site a mp3 song played in your SD1...

Don, I agree with you about the great drums.
Some 'secrets' (?) :
Only very few effects on the instruments, what makes they sound DIRECT and 'close miked'.

Excellent samples.

Made/programmed by Italian musicians... they know how to put a musical feel in music.

Sometimes however I find the drum a little too dominant. The Tyros drums are more a 'part' (one of the parts) in the music mix.

Kinda reminds me of the classic Memorex commercial: "Is it 'live' or is it _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ?

DonM, have your neighbors been complaining and asking you to "stop banging on the drums" again?! - Scott

Are you sure they are sampled, or are they COSM Modelled? There could be a huge difference.

I've listened to the SD1 demo's and I must say those drums sound as good as my Acoustic DRum Workship Collectors Classics!!!

Don, have you ever tried changing different drum kits for the pattern, sometimes it does change the attitude of the whole style. I agree with you, SD1 sounds like a raw live, bar band, to me anyway.

Roel, your observation is right on, sometimes SD1 drum sounds, especially newer pattern is too much in your face, I have to adjust the individul volume of snare a lot, adjust the groove volume does help as well.

Tyros's drum blend very well, that's why I said once that it sounds perfect like listening to a polished sound production of a pop ballad CD.

My feelings on the Tyros are the same. It sounds like a polished CD. The SD1 sounds like a live combo playing.
I will post some new songs as soon as I get time. Maybe this weekend? If it rains and the golf course is closed.

I must agree with Roel.

If I want to play a song and create an impressive demo, SD1 is King of arrangers. The "in face" drums are awesome.
For day by day jobs I go to the softness of Yamies.

Don, there is a reason for this. Many of the styles are using 2 drum kits. One is actual drum samples like all the rest and 2 are loops made just for those particular styles. It is the loops that make it sound so real. Especially in the Latin, Dance and Jazz styles. Ketron and Generalmusic are the only two using this technology. Yamaha, Roland and Korg use conventional drum machine type programming. However, I like the drum samples the best in the Korg PA1XPRO. They have, to my ear, the most realistic sounding snare drums I've heard.

Does anyone know of a great software drum kit? I'm prepared to pay what it costs, but I need them to be mapped to GM.
