I think pgmusic's PowertracksPro is $50. Is there anything you recommend for that price or less to edit midi's?

Depending on the midi, I might need to change the key, change the tempo, insert an intro count-in click, etc. Any comments about sequencer software? (I've searched this forum already but I thought I recalled someone mentioning something cheaper or even free.)

Neighbor Semi, You can do a lot with GNMidi.
Almost free, I think it's 10 bucks.
I have a copy of it and PTP if you want to check it out.

Don , GNMIDI is $30..And Powertracks is a bargain at $50..Those two are all you need..

Personally I have no need for the over priced Cakewalk products, compared to the above programs.

Bill:

For the PC, in my view, Cakewalk is probably the most popular, and offers the best user support.

The Sonar products are focused on audio and very expensive, but Home Sudio or, better yet, Cakewalk ProAudio 8 or 9, are excellent midi sequencers. I see them on eBay for $40-50. You might even find a user on the Net who has migrated to Sonar willing to part with his old ProAudio for a lot less.

Regards,

Michael

I can buy Cakewalk ProAudio 9 for $50. At this time, my main needs are editing midi and editing wav files I record via my Fostex multi-track recorder.

As for midi:
- transpose key of all tracks
- adjust tempo
- insert an intro
- edit/modify an ending that is too abrupt
- fade out
- change volume of certain tracks
- change volume overall
- amend a "bad" note
- if I could also "build" a midi track by track (I guess that is what a sequencer does), that's a plus

Just to clarify... do you (or anyone) think this is the best choice for me? Pgmusic Powertracks Pro is also $50.

I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 8, Sonar, XG Works and Powertracks. I prefer CWPA over them all, but partly because I have used it since version 2-3.

Other people claim to be overwhelmed by Cakewalk, but I find Pro Audio (not Sonar) very direct and with useful help files etc. And there are thousands of people on the net you can ask.

For a free yet powerful midi editor, I suggest CasmEdit. It does both midis and styles.

It is an editor, not a sequencer, but you can do some jobs very directly with it (you see and modify the actual midi commands; pop up windows give you the options).
