I recently was given a new Toshiba SCSI CDROM drive; I had a cable made up and have attempted to use it as external storage on my PSR9000. The drive DOES show up properly in the storage lists. The CD disk label is showing. However, I have so far unable to make up a CD-R with styles and songs that will show up in the directory/file readout on the 9000. My CDROM drive is terminated properly (ID other than 7); the cabling is correct; can anyone help here as to how to burn the CD disk so that the 9000 will see the files? Thanks in advance ...

Just got back into music 6-7 years ago; bouhgt couple keyboards and I'm still struggling to get my hands used to something other than Fats Domino routines.

Genius that I am, I have figured this out. The CD disk burned with the files must be "finalized" -- i.e., closed with no additional writing permitted. That seemed to be the trick. I was using a disk that was still open.
Why does he want to do this? someone might ask ... well, I can transfer about 700 megabytes of files from my trusty computer to my 9000 hard disk from that single CD, anytime, and not have to use umpteen hundred slow floppies. Or use "direct disk" load from the CD, etc. etc. after I fill the hard disk. It works, well. I just never took the time to puzzle it out and get the necessary CDROM drive, cable, enclosure, etc. before.
Thanks to anyone taking the time to even think about this on this older PSR unit.

Update, in case any other poor soul is experimenting with older SCSI storage possibilities:

It is NOT necessary to "finalize" the CD itself when burning the style and other files. I was not handling the internal directory referencing properly on the PSR9000. Both "closed" and "open" CD disks will be read.

I have now successfully set up the external CDROM; burned song, MIDI and style files to CD, and transferred them from CD to the PSR9000 hard disk, floppy, etc. used the CD as a "direct" style input, and so on. This is quite useful. I see it as a backup resource too. I really enjoy recycling "obsolete" gear.
