I just came back from holiday in Corfu. The hotel I stayed (Marbella Corfu) was wonderful and I would recommend It to all of you. Corfu was so-so. Some nice spots but TOO MANY tourists, at least this time of year.
One bad thing though.... the resident hotel entertainer. He had a GEM WX-2 (sometimes using the left hand to play the built-in accompaniment and sometimes using it as a midi file player) and a KORG piano, playing along with the midi files.
Everything was fine, until he opened his mouth. I can honestly say that it was the first time I wanted to silence someone singing. Absolutely bored and absolutely drunk. He even spiced up "I just called to say I love you" with extra lyrics like "Bring two whiskeys", reffering to the nearby bartender. "Light my fire" was sounding like "Throw me in the fire" for me.
Ever had such an experience?

Years ago, I visited a restautrant called The Cave in Frankfort, Kentucky. It was in an actual cave that had once been a beer
brewery...very posh.

We were the only customers, and there was an old organ player in a far corner. At the close of the evening, the proprietor went to tell him he as closing. The old guy was asleep. The Thomas organ he as "playing" had a tape recorder built in. The old guy had turned on the unit and fallen asleep.

I blame the owners ....they get what they pay for and deserve it too.

Hi,
in Yamaha‘s German forum someone wrote about a strange gig he had with his 3 man band "Brisant". One day they should perform in alternation with 2 guys from a country band, pretty famous in Germany. These two guys took very very much money for the gig, but had only a power mixer (for a audience of 750 persons in a tent) so they used it for monitoring only and the main PA of the "Brisant" band.
And the both country band members drank before the gig beer. The waiter came with the drinks for the musicians, 4 glass of beer, 4 herb liqueur and 2 cola. The forum‘s member band "Brisant" drank the cola.
The two guys went back to the hotel and the "Brisant" band began.
At 8 pm the two guys came back, with a stupid smiling and begin the performance. First they set the level higher and higher. The most well meaning hard core fans with cowboy hats were shocked.
The "Brisant" band did correct the sound, but the duo on stage set the sound level higher again and again. And the "professional" duo sang quite strange. So the "Brisant" band left the tent and watched the audience, how they left the tent too.
After 20 minutes the tent was nearly empty, only 25 persons audience and 10 staff persons not allowed to escape.
Fortunately the people want not to go home, as the other band continues with usual pop music, the audience came back.
The 2 drunken guys spend the time between the performances with drinking herb liqueur and beer, because drinks are free.
Then they entered the stage again, set the volume - higher - again.
The "Brisant" band set the PA system off, but the duo did torture the own small PA system (used for monitoring only).
The audience flees and 5 marksmen forbid the both "musicians" to continue (under threat of violence).
The"Brisant" band tried to save the day and suggest to perform 2 songs with the two guys together, to have a better finish.
One song was really good, but the second one was a medley of songs, famous by the duo musicians‘ band.
They forgot the order of the single songs. One of the "singer" wants to sing spontaneously "Johnny B. Goode".
While he tried to walk closer to the audience, he touched the equipment, it fells down and his fellow says "It takes years of training, that this looks so professional".
The marksmen came again and asked the band "Brisant" for stopping the drunken musicians, instead the party would be over.
After the event, the event manager told, that the duo drank half a bottle herb liqueur, many glasses of beer and other drinks, spent by some fans.
Next year the musicians will only get water as free drink.
An extreme example, but not rare.
This report was in the topic "catering" and the point was, that drinking musicians may result less catering, finally, a lunch box with sandwiches and a isolation bottle with coffee will be essential parts of the equipment.
And so we spend the break like a brick layer.
