Although the screens and buttons might look just the same there are major differences in these two keyboards.
First, the sounds on the PA1X are much more complex and real to the ear. The Guitars have multiple samples within each key played to give very realistic results. This is also true with the brass solo instruments too. Although many of the styles have the same names as the PA80, they have been reworked to use these higher quality sounds.
The sequencer is the same.
There is an on board sampler with the PA1X which comes stock with 16MB and can be expanded to 32MB, the PA80 can only sample 8MB and only if you buy a card from Korg and leave it plugged into the back when you need to sample or play samples.
The PA1X adds a TC Helicon vocal harmonizer, sliding faders to adjust levels, organ draw bars, etc.
You can add a CD burner, MP3 recorder only to the PA1X and not to the PA80, so there is much more expansion available.
Also, additional Latin Board cards, Piano cards and more to come are available with the PA1X.
I hope this helps. In my music store in California, I don't even cary the PA80 any more. Only the lower priced PA50 (made in China) and the PA1X (made in Italy).
