I got a look at it today. It has great vocalizer, accepts all media types, has direct record, in multi-track form. All styles can be easily replaced. All new operating system, similar to Yamaha. Huge new color display that can also project a message of your choice to the audience. Your choice of joy stick or wheels. Independent channel aftertouch. Amazing new sounds that respond to key pressure, similar to Tyros 2, but better. It weighs 28 pounds, has 76 keys, has 220-watt on board speaker system, designed by Bose, in which speakers face both you and the audience. The speakers that face the audience can be telescoped up to project over the heads of the audience. It has onboard 6-channel mixer with inputs for 6 other mics or instruments, which can each have their own effects selected. You can chose your own cabinet color of silver, black or fuscia (for Tony W It is totally sealed so that any drinks spilled on it will simply be repelled. In fact there is an optional drink-recycler that funnels the spilled liquid into a detachable cup. (For HankB). In also has a built-in video camera that records your performance entirely and burns it to DVD, if you choose. It is the only keyboard to date that will realistically imitate the Chapman Stick (for Terry). It also will be available in a software version (for Frank and Rikki). It will have a built-in weather warning system (for Tony R., Eddie, and all those in Florida and LA.) (Scottyee: future upgrades may include a Seismograph). Ketron is so certain we will like this new keyboard that they are offering a free 120-day trial, with no deposit required. If you don't like it after four months, they will send UPS to pick it up. Best of all the cost is less than a PSR3000, or a new SUV. No wait, I was only imagining I saw it. Sorry, DonM

I recall the threads where some members posted preliminary information with many correct and relevant details about a Yamaha (or was it a Roland) keyboard, and it was met with the uproar from the other members of this forum as dirty sales tricks. At the time I defended posting the early info and still do.
However the posts from Dan and AJ about this new Ketron represent the new low. These contain NO information for the others - where is all the outrage?
For all the good work AJ is doing for Ketron, I would say - either provide us with the information, or keep quiet. If you are not allowed to talk about it - don't.
I am sure that this new Ketron is a nice instrument, and represents a new repackaging of the old technologies. The 128 note polyphony is peaking my interest. Regrettably, it is immediately cooled off by the minimalist 61 keys.
IMHO, if you started to talk about something, then go ahead and finish telling us. In other words, put up or .... ..

Ok, some preliminary information then ...
* 61 notes with semi-weighted keybed. * New voices (esp. Guitars, Organs and breathe-taking Sax). Wait until you hear these... * New styles with more focus no the main-stream market (Jazz, RnB, Ballroom, Ballads, Caribbean). * New features (RIFF/Auto Chord scan, 16 Assignable buttons, instant access to REGISTRATIONS right infront of you, intelligent fill... * Silver finish with rebuilt sound system and better bass reproduction...
I am currently setting up and have to go. I guess others who attend the show will be bringing forth more information from here.
Also the EXP package (for the SD1, SD1Plus, XD9, XD3, X1 and X4) will be available at the NAMM. It will be marketed as an OPTION available to all. I will however have one unit at the show to clearly demonstrate what the package will/can do for your keyboard.

rikkisbears, Hmm ... this new feature (RIFF) comes close. When you play any song with a style, the arranger 'monitors' your playing mode/sequence (chord changes, velocity). When you go to Arranger "D" (if RIFF is available for that style), the arranger will then play a melodic line (using complex chord progressions comon to that particular style, plus incoorporating the chord sequences you just played and the melodies you played with the lead, changing chords and adding lead lines by itself and you can now play lead parts and lower parts irrespective of the arranger. Ofcouse to avoid 'over crowding' parts are instanlty mutted when you start playing again. You can no longer control the chords and this permits you to play 'freely' through the keyboard. RIFF depends from style to style and in some cases can be as long as 16-32 measures long! When you go out of RIFF into Arranger (A-C), the arranger now recognizes your chords once more!
So, even though it kinda doesn't play by itself, it kinda does!
