Just curious, Alfa..... Let's just take this demo as an example (from the style demo page at Lionstracs):
http://www.lionstracs.com/demo/styles/balladbeat.mp3

Am I going deaf, or is that guitar out of tune? BADLY out of tune....?

When is Domenik going to realize THIS is his competition;

Until he can match this, what's the point?

I will say that I too wish more Mediastation owners would post examples. I support the unit, but I could sit here throwing "bunny rabbits, rainbows, and butterflies" all day in praise of the MS, but no amount of verbal fluff from me will help others understand what the MS is capable of doing as an arranger without more demos from the users.

Despite the recent discussions I think everyone will agree that Domenik should be allowed to post a reply on this one

Kind regards,
Tommy

A suggestion too.. Not that I dislike the 80's and all, but too often I find that some factory demos are a 80's flash back. Someone on another keyboard forum made a comment once about keyboard makers employing demo production specialists who weren't 80's flower childern Made me laugh my ass off to be honest

Dom here's a suggestion. I listened to the drum examples, and my friend I mean no harm by this, but I was unimpressed to say the least. Those drums had a serious 80's feel to them. At one point I felt like WHAM, Paula Abdul, Bobby Brown, George Michael, or Richard Marx could break into a verse.

Also what makes them sound 80's(ish) is the "constant" feel to it. There aren't much in the dynamics, and most importantly if the quantize is being used, lower the grid strength. Sometimes midi'ing up a pad controller to a keyboard can produce great results for drums.

In all honestly a really good sound can be lost in a demo if "dynamics" are ignored. The largest giga drum kit on the market can sound like a $99.00 Casio if not recorded properly.

But squeak, don't you, er, 'get it'...? This is an OPEN systems arranger.

I guess this means that you not only have to roll your own styles, but you have to roll your own sounds as well.....

I guess they just don't realize.... If we HAD the skill to write styles and program sounds and sample instruments as well as the majors, well, we'd be working for them, doing exactly THAT!

Me, I'm a player. Some technical skills, OK, but I wouldn't dare dream for one instant that I had the skills to make a complete set of styles that rival the majors. And I'll go one step further..... I GUARANTEE that there is not one single person posting on this forum that has those skills either.

You know how I know.....? Because that person would be making a fortune SELLING us styles for our existing arrangers....! If he's THAT good, he's either already making styles for the majors, or selling third-party styles. Unfortunately, this mythical creature never comes here (where you would think he would). So I am lead to believe he doesn't exist.

But he is Domenik's apparent target market. Best of luck, mate......

None of us LIKE to admit we have limitations, but I for one am prepared to admit that there might be a few things too difficult for me to achieve, or too boring to want to try. Making a complete set of killer styles is one of those things. And I am prepared to bet that no-one else here is, either.

Domenik, on the other hand, is betting his entire future on the fact that we ARE skilled enough to do exactly that. I wouldn't want to take that bet if it were MY company on the line.

Diki,
I wouldn't say MS owners have to provide their own "voices". The MS ships with some good voices. It just also has the "ability" to load the giga sounds for example.

I do agree that in the styles department that it "would appear" the MS owners are left to either write their own, or convert styles from other makers. I also understand that not everyone is capable of creating styles. Playing drums on the keys for example isn't the easiest thing to do.

Maybe someone here has the ability to write styles that compete with the big three. If they do, I'd love to see their equipment I'm no expert at writing styles, but I can do it. I am without a doubt in the "minority" here. I "program" and edit more than most people would care to do here, but that's just me.

Still I'd love to at least hear some of the preset voices, with either preset or user styles.

If your demos are SO much better than the factory ones, why are they not already up there?

And I am talking STYLE demos. I don't care if you used that damn thing as a workstation, or a DAW, or an espresso machine! I want to hear style demos that justify it's price. I want to hear style demos that justify the price of a PSR3k.... (haven't even heard one of those, yet!)

So many people posting what you COULD do with an MS, but nobody posting what they HAVE.....

It's the Emperor's new arranger... (He's not wearing any styles...!)
