I came upon a G800 for sale and was unable to draw a comparison between it (1996) and the G1000 (1998). Are there any major differences, improvements, etc.? What would a nice 800 be worth today?

The 1000 does everything the 800 can do..It adds a zip drive[a must], on board memory to retain user stles, insert effects, a bank of G1000 tones[ many from the jv series], after touch,..there are so many features over the 800 that I would tell you to skip the 800 in favor of the 1000..

Twiggy's worth $400US ... TOPS. It still has a pretty good control surface, but it's a dated beast.

I had a G800 several years ago. It was HEAVY and had big ol' weighted keys. It had many operating flaws, including inability to remember transpose in the registration memories. It did, however, have some great sounds and good drums. Also some good styles. I had changed to it from Technics and I remember how neat it was that the sequencer recorded in GM format, not proprietary as the Technics did (does).
I also liked the ability for various keyboard split option, and the way the volume pedal could be used to fade in and out two different sounds.
I would buy one for $100 and leave it at home for the kids to play with.
