I'm a little bit confused: what are the differences between pro and without speakers versions? Can they be both upgradable to new sounds and /or boards?
PA1X Pro is a 76 key version with a factory fitted hard drive and is currently available for around $3000 the PA1X (not pro) is a 61 key version with speakers and no hard drive (which is optional or you can fit your own with any notebook drive I guess) and is not available yet PA1X is hope to be available by march, and that's it there is no more differences in them besides the 2 I mentioned.
Not enough sounds? We doubt it but if you want to add more, the Pa1X has two slots available for the addition of optional user installable16Mb Korg sound upgrade boards. These can provide up to 512 extra sounds and 128 extra drum kits.
This is the link to the US Korg site with PA1X info. Reading this page, I get the impression that the hard disk is standard (and preloaded with stuff).
