Can anyone suggest a fair priced or free programme to convert Midi to MP3 or a mini MP3 player that can play midi files.

Hello Ken
A Midi file is not an Audio file unlike Wav, MP3 etc which are, (A common misunderstanding) it just sends out a standard set of Digital Codes that tell the keyboard etc, what notes and sounds to play,
You don’t say what keyboard you have but virtually all will play Midi files, and the sound output can be recorded on to a computer etc. (The more expensive keyboards can do the recording without a computer)
If you do not have a keyboard, then you can play the Midi file direct on the computer, which you will find has its own built in Soft Synth to play the notes and sounds. (The quality of the sound will depend on the quality of the computer sound system)
If you have a Windows OS then unless you really need MP3, you can use Media Player to convert the recording to WMA format, which can also be played on most portable players.
If you really need MP3 then see if you have any audio or CD Burning programs on your computer, as these normally come with MP3 encoders.
Portable players also come with computer software discs to do the same job, if none of these are available then do a Web Search for MP3 Encoders, and see which one takes your fancy.
Hope this helps.

Bill

Although this product[link above] does not convert , it will play all the media in one program..It could be used with a laptop , or an ipod..It will need to use a GM wavetable...

Ken,

This is easy stuff. Just go to the PSR Tutorial and you'll find detailed instructions on how to do this using your keyboard and computer.

Good Luck,

Gary

Try Goldwave, www.golwave.com

provided that the output from your sound source (whichever it is) goes to the input of your PC, this program will record, edit, apply some effects etc.

It is not freeware per se, but gives you an "amount of money" each time you run it, and you spend some each time you do something. (cut, paste, record, save etc).... when the money runs out it stops functioning nd you just have to launch it again.

Ii find it very helpful for simple working.

Thank you for your responses.
What I actually want to do is play my midi collection in my computer on a small portable stand alone device similar to IPod.
This is so I can learn songs when I am away from my PSR3000 or the computer.
