Hi,
I may to buy a Roland EM-50 at good price (at similar price as new EM-25).

Only have a question for someone:

Is it possible load a style from flopy? Someone told it is NOT POSSIBLE, only it is possible load eight styles grouped into a file, and put them into flash rom area for user styles (exactly for 8 styles, not more but not less).

But from technical data (internet) it seems it would be possible play a style from floppy, in addition to have eight styles loaded in flash room.

Any answer, please!!!!!

I'm guessing that you can load styles from disc. Here is a quote,"Expanded selection of new music styles, including new dance sounds (56 styles on ROM, plus 8 on Flash ROM)" This would suggest 8 styles can be loaded. I saw a question from someone asking if he can convert .mid to .stl files for his EM50. I don't know if you can load directly from disc. Make sure it can do this before you buy the EM50. IMO Roland styles are not as good as Yamaha styles, so would be great to have new styles.

Thanks, Stark, you say "make sure it can load styles from disc". But how can I know it? Perhaps is there the EM-50 manual on-line?
Roland Italy offers six styles disk for EM-50, but if you see them, there is a only file in each, which have and load the eight styles on flash ram. And it is not possible to do my self those special "files". It is not clear, I think... Probably, it is possible play a style from floppy, but not load it in user area, because user area is that special flash room I said.
How can I answer that question?

Godwald,
You need to ask the seller or send an email to Roland. Forget about about an on-line manual (Roland not as modern as Yamaha in that respect).

From MANUAL

New Style can be transferred to the Flash ROM memories(1-8), ...

You can load one Music Style to the EM-50LDisk User memory and use it as if were a 73rd Music Style.
The Style data in this momory are only available until you switch off your EM-50 or load another Style.

My comment:

*Disk user memoy loading time is very fast.

*You can use all Roland Style .(MSD, MSE, MSA).

*8 Styles in Flash is grouped, load & save as on file, but you can create new group file with 8 individual Style file.

Thankks, Rikki
So, user styles loaded into flash memory are volatile, do not remains when the keyboard is swich off...
But, information about EM-50 says clearly that it only load msa and msd styles, but not mse (that is, the more new styles from Roland: G-1000, VA series, etc). You say it may load them... sure? Have you loaded styles from VA or G series?

I don't think this is what Riki is saying.
I suspect the 8 flash rom areas wud be permanent storage, but the 1 user style area is temporary.
Can you conform this Riki.

Yes, sure, all format.
But .stl file, not .sth file

Limitation is file size. Some Ketron converted Style can not load (very large).

Good point is play all 3-variation of Maj,Min,7th. (Yamaha can not)

Original manual lacks descrimination how to create New 8 Styles Group File. If you want know how to..., I respond.( Long description)

No, Riki, thanks, I don't ask you now how to create New 8 Styles Group File. If I buy EM-50, I do...
I only wanted to know if, really, EM-50 is a good player with external styles. You say yes, and so, probably I will buy it. Because a new EM-25, the alternative, seems have worse voices.
A last question. I see there is a slider for both accompan./lower voice volumes. So Does that slider modify at same time both volumes? or is it possible modify separately both volumes, for example, go up lower voice and go down accom.?

Cheers

Godwald,
It's probably simlar to the EM20:
You have general volume control (up/down), Bass volume (up/down/off), drums (up/down/off), and accompaniment/lower (up/down/off). The EM20 does not have a volume control of upper voices. TO raise a voice you would lower the accompaniment voices and raise the general volume.
