For no apparent reason, my computer screens colors all of a sudden seemed to take on a darker hue. Dark enough to make some screens difficult to even read.

I wasn't messing with any of the settings at all,..it just went rather dark with no warning...

Kind of like someone hit the dimmer switch..,.

Any ideas, suggestions?

They go without warning....might be time for a new one.

If you can, try the monitor on a different computer, and/or the computer with a different monitor. This will tell you if the monitor has gone bad. If it has, it's probably cheaper to buy a new one than try to have the old one repaired.

The first I would try is the connections and the monitor cable to the computer. Does the screen change when you jiggle the wires and connections?

Bill, can't say if this is your case, but these were the same symptoms I experienced leading up to my 17" CRT (Apple brand Display) finally went completely out a few weeks ago. I recently purchased a Sony 19" LCD model SDM-HS94 and very happy with it.
