Unfortunately, the town centre i live in only has 1 keyboard shop and mainly stocks Korg products, so for trying out different instruments is quite difficult for me. So a lot of the time i have to rely on demo's found on the internet.

Now, i've been very curious about this new Roland G70 arranger, so i checked out a few demos, and i have to say i was totally blow away, especially with this demo from the official site : http://www.rolandkeyboardclub.com/upload_area/videos/G70_2min_wm_H.wmv

Does it really sound this good? Or is it simply a very talented keyboard player getting the best out of it. Some of the chords sounded amazing, were those styles being played or an SMF? Because it sounded incredibly realistic. Do those styles sound THAT good?

I'm not looking to change anything as i am very happy indeed with my PA1x in every way, however, judging by those demos of the G70, i think it sounds better.. I would love to hear from people who have played them both to make a true comparison...

But whatever, we truely blessed with some of the most incredible sounding instruments that i never thought were possible, especially thinking back when owning my first keyboard, the Yamaha PSS-790 when keyboards them days were just regarded as things you use for having fun and nothing serious...

The G70 sound very good, but the best keyboard I think is the Korg PA1X Pro so keep it.

lol, i would never change my PA1x for anything that isnt what i was potraying! PA1x is perfect for me in every way. But as a keyboard lover you do look at other keyboards and appreciate whats out there, but i was just amazed at the demo's of the G70 and really wondered (without actually being able to see one) if it really sounded as good as the demo's suggest..

I have this board for three weeks now and I think it is my first keyboard where it really pays off to read the manual thoroughly! It has so many nice features. For instance triggering fills using aftertouch, or the makeup and cover tools. One thing I am having second thoughts about though, and that is styles. Although this whole keyboard really sounds great and is a major step forward for me soundwise, I still think my former Technics KN6000 had better and more 'inspiring' styles. I think that is a pity since this instrument has so much going for it!

You are dissapointed with the styles?? Why?? If in the demo i initially posted were styles being played from the keyboard, then i cannot see why anybody would be dissapointed, they sounded incredible to me, especially the ballads near the beginning, i want them!

Danny, I hear you, because I too was impressed with that demo the first time I heard it, but I can tell you that -even if I played the G 70 twice in a shop (using headphones- I was never able to obtain the same kind of sound, so I guess that to record the demo they used a "souped up" G 70. My guess is that they messed a lot with the equalization and I wonder why Roland didn't do the same for all the G 70 shipped worldwide. I know that in the global effect section there is an equalizator and a compressor and my feeling is that Roland screwed big time with these settings... except of course in the aforementioned demo!
I am curious to hear other people's feelings about this; Roel, did you demo the G 70 again today (Sunday)?

When I first played the G70 back in November of last year, I told Roland they needed a larger library of new and exciting styles. At the NAMM show this past January, I told the Italian design team the exact same thing. I told them that the sounds were great (with less effects) and the styles can be great (using very good programmers) and that they needed these FAST! if they want the G70 to succeed.
In a conversation last month they told me that they would be creating additional styles which would be available at no charge to the G70 customers. Roland has done 4 styles so far and posted them on the roland keyboard club website. I only hope they do a lot more and soon!
And my friend at Roland in Italy, please include some great Persian and Arabic styles for your middle eastern customers around the world! This is very much needed to make these musicians want to play your keyboards. The styles created in the older Roland oriental keyboards have been around a long time now and they are not up to par with styles coming out from Korg and Generalmusic.

Maybe the settings in the previous releases of the O/S made it sound different out of the box, but with the current O/S version I can assure you that it can sound as crisp and clear as you heared in the demos.

It is obvious that the initial settings in the first releases of the O/S were too much based on the Italian taste. At least that is what I think is the cause of it.

Danny, the styles you hear in the demo that you mention are in fact the internal styles. The stylegroup 'live band' has those styles with a lot the multi-layered guitar sounds in them. As opposed to the Tyros megavoices these guitar sounds are also very suitable for live performance.

If you find it hard to believe that I miss my KN6000 styles, I can only say that Technics apparently did a very, very good job back in 1999! But it is also a matter of personal taste of course.

Dreamer ... Yes there is alot you can to with the EQ and Compressor. There is no need for a mixer with the G70.
