I was wondering if Yamaha would be releasing an upgraded/expanded Tyros soon. I am hoping for a 76 key version, semi-weighted keys with no speakers, USB 2 connectivity, built-in hard disk and an SD memory slot.

Hi Graham,
Thanks for pointing me to that thread. It sums up my sentiments exactly.
I would hope that Yamaha reads our requests and offers us a 76 key version. They need to compete with the Korg Pa1X-Pro, the Roland G-70 and the Keytron SD-1 - all 76 key models.
I've just got this overall feeling that Yamaha isn't going to make a 76-note pro arranger again ever, and even if they did I wouldn't trust them to support it. Yamaha knows they failed to support their 9000 Pro at every turn and angered a lot of users... they seem to want to sweep that incident under the carpet. All of the other pro arrangers like the Pa1XPro and the G70 seem like they are trying to catch up to the extinct 9000 Pro. Yamaha reps have called the 9000 Pro "a failed experiment" in private emails and since their reorganization which further seperated their pro and hom keyboard departments, I see the chances of a new pro arranger from Yamaha to be slimmer than ever. The next-generation Tyros will likely be a minor upgrade and will still have 61 keys.

Well, if Yamaha does not make a 76 key Tyros ES, I would not buy it. They have lost a potential customer.
I had two major complaints on the Tyros.
1. Lacking 76 keys 2. Annoying Disco Lighted buttons.
There was so much real estate wasted on the side panels. A 76 note keybed could easily have gone in. A simple blue backlighting like the Pa1X could have sufficed for the buttons.

Dont forget for every AW sold to a pro or semi pro there are hundreds sold to home users. Also, not all musicians who gig want more than 61 keys anyway and if you do there are Korg, Ketron, GEM and Roland offerings already out there.
It doesn't really make economic sense to tool up for such a limited marketplace.
I would be very surprised iy Yamaha bring out a 76 note keyboard as much as I wouldn't mind having one myself.
