I know this is an arranger forum, but I have a friend that is a guitar player and would like to run sequences for backup tracks. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or could you tell me where to look for any info?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ed

Ed,
You might have a look in the software and softsynths section of this BBS.
I found out there about software called OMB which does accept messages from midiguitars/pedals.

Or look at: http://www.1manband.nl/omb.htm

Power Tracks Pro is an excellent value for the money ( around 50 Usd ). It's made by PG Music, the same folks who make Band In a Box. In that price range, and also an excellent value is Cakewalk Music Creator. Both have full fledged sequencers and editors onboard.

If all he ( or she ).. wants to do is play back premade midifiles, then an app like Van Basco karaoke player is fine, and it's freeware to boot

If your friend wants original arrangements but isn't so much a "Do it Yourselfer".. in other words, he does not want to play pre made midifiles, but he doesn't want to make sequences from scratch, he could check out One Man band, which plays Yamaha style files... Chords and style parts can be recorded in step or real time.

Regards,
AJ

Thanks for the quick response. I'll look into your suggestions.

Is there possibly a stand alone sequencer/sound module with a built in hard driver to store premade/purchased sequences into or do you suggest that a laptop with software is the best tool?

Thanks again for your help.
