That really depends, since it's a personal taste issue. If you like to screw around with the patches (which I think many people don't have the patience to do), a jv1010 by itsself can do quite a bit in those areas. Having only briefly played around with the hip-hop expansion board, I found it to be a little cheesy and canned (unoriginal), although I guess that could be said about a lot of the boards. I should mention here that I'm not a hip-hop fan, so my opinion is slightly biased. But again, if you make your own patches, you have more options there. It kinda depends on your expectations of what you think it's supposed to sound like. I suggest you buy the JV1010 (it's the best bang/buck module out there, imho) and try living with just that for a couple of months, and then decide on which expansion board you get. Keep in mind, that making your own patches sucks, indeed, but you'll be much happier when you've figured it out; so force yourself to learn by looking at how the other patches are made.
