Hi Everyone,
This message came up on my computer this morning when connecting to the Zone>

synthzone.com

When we tested this site we found links to mediaplex.com, which we found to be a distributor of downloads some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs.

Are you the owner of this site? Leave a comment.

Could this be a Problem?

Regards To All Gilbert.

Hi Gilbert
I have already emailed Nigel about this with all the details.
It will not be a problem providing you do not go to the site mentioned, however if there is something on that particular site that you want, then make sure your virus and spy-ware programs are up to date, and do a full scan when you leave that particular site.
Hope this helps to put your mind at ease

Bill

This message - possibly generated by IE7's "is this site safe" site scanning factilities - means that somoene somewhere in the entire synthzone site - not just this forum - has posted, a link to mediaplex.

As Bill says, this is not a problem with synthzone as such; it is up to individuals what information they place in their postings and up to the reader of the post as to whether they follow such a link.

This type of warning is given because some websites may automatically forward you to other websites without you doing anything, so you could end up somewhere "undesireable" without any concious action.

Just as Bill said this isn't really problem and won't affect you at all. I am trying to see which one of the thousands of links is now redirecting to mediaplex.com because there is no link directly to that site. Every now and then good domains can expire and then get bought up by spam sites. It can just be very hard to quickly track down which link that may be.

I have seen the McAfee warning and the problem is not a virus at that website but some downloads there are considered to be adware or spyware. Like Bill said if you ever do find a link takes you to mediaplex.com just leave it and don't download files from it ( but do let me know the link that took you there ).

This will most likely be a link on one of the many link listing pages here and is not related to the forums at all.

Hi Nigel
I see you found the dodgy link, as site advisor is now showing green again.
Keep up the good work, as in spite of some problems it is still one of the best sites on the web for keyboard players and music.
Regards

Bill

Thanks so much for letting me know the status had changed back again Bill. I am so relieved. I fixed a number of links that had become outdated and were redirecting to advertising sites. One I removed was still actually valid but was generating a popup that had red status. This was probably the one that caused the problem. Even though the website itself was still valid I removed it rather than scare people away by making it look like I was linking to suspect sites.

I really appreciate being notified about this. It could easily happen again in the future but if I am let know then I can try to eliminate it as quickly as possible.
