I have problems using my Roland D-50 as master keyboard. When it's connected to my computer the sound volume is too low. I have
tried to find a parameter or something in the
D-50 that could adjust the midi-volume but it doesn't seem to work. If I put the velocity on the computer (I use Hubi's loopback device)to 127 the volume is normal.
Has anyone had similar problems?
I'm also looking for a D-50 user's manual.

What do you guys mean, midi Mainvolume or the velocity you hit your keys with.
Early D50's had a problem with the velocity.
You can check your eprom version of the D50 for this.

Let me know.

I try to explain. I think it has to do with the velocity. If I use a sound (on my computer soundcard synth)
which is independent of velocity (organ sound) the volume is normal and everything works fine.
But if I use a piano or something similar the
volume becomes low and even if I hit hard on the D-50 the volume is extremely low. You mentioned midi Mainvolume.
If the mainvolume was adjustable from the D-50 there were no problems (I mean some way to turn the midi volume messages
from the D-50 louder). But I don't know how to do that. Or if the velocity on the D-50 somehow was adjustable? Where do I find the eprom version of the D-50?
Thank you

It's like Johan said a Velocity problem, especially with piano you have to hit the keys quite hard (fast) before you get normal piano level sound.

my ROM version is V1.06

thanks,
~/Eric.

The velocity of the D50 is 0-99.
I used my as extra keys for my JV80 and I always had to make the sounds on the JV80 much more sensitive to velocity.
If you have cubase you can use velocity expanding on the tracks

All you want to know about your D50 ...

if you HOLD keys SHIFT + INCREMENT
or SHIFT + DECREMENT
or SHIFT + WRITE
or SHIFT + DATA-Transfer.
WHILE you POWER-UP the machine it will show more info in the display.
and you can test all buttons, controlers, ...

regards,
~/Eric.

Hi
Thanks putmans, excuse me but it was space button instead of shift on my D-50.
The velocity is 0-127 but you have to hit the keys VERY hard. I don't know if this is the eprom version but it was 2.2.
Talking about the velocity... Actually one key on my D-50 got a problem. It has full velocity all the time. Has anyone repaired a keyboard before? Suggestions? I'm gonna try repair it when I got some time...

December '98... Sorry to bring this old topic up, but I really didn't get it. What's the solution?! Is the D50 useless as a master keyboard? Mine sends 0-127 velocity, but I have to push hard/fast. Piano always sounds really bad.
