On Sdisk subject:

look at this thread on Roland Discussion http://www.synthworld.com/ubbs/Forum20/HTML/000599.html

Let me know if you still have questions on Sdisk use.

You are running Windows 9x?

There are two ways to get DOS mode:

1) At boot time, press F8 and choose Command Prompt only in the boot menu, or
2) When running Windows, press Start, Shutdown, choose Restart computer in DOS mode.
In DOS mode the Sdisk program will work correctly.

ok, heres where im at...disk seems to read fine, when i try to write to a disk im getting "could not read file xxxx.out". should i be unzipping image files to my hard drive? i dont exactly understand everything in the same directory, as i dont know much about dos. i saw on the sgroup site that i should be running a bootable version of dos, less than version 6, is this not true?

Not exactly...
The Sdisk program is a DOS program released before Windows 9x, but still works with the command prompt provided in DOS mode.
To use SDISK, you should unzip the image file to the same folder of Sdisk program, them follow the steps to write the floppy disk.

About names:
Directory is the old DOS name for folder...

ok...now i have successfully copied a file between two disks, from one s50 disk i made, to a blank disk. but when i try to write from the c drive to a disk, it writes, but when i load the disk into the s50, it says please enter s50 disk. i unzipped to the same folder/directory sdisk is in. should i use an unformatted disk to write on, or one formatted for the s50? or am i downloading bum files? and...does anyone have the roland library online?

The disks can be PC or S50 formatted before use with Sdisk. Maybe you really have a damaged file or a format that the S50 won't load (S550, W30 or S700)
There is a S550 to S50 converter at Roland page: http://www.rolandus.com/SUPPORT/SOFTWARE/PCSAMP.HTM
You'll find the Roland Library online at the Sgroup page: www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup
