Wsup with the SmartMedia card limit. Are we really limited to 4MB? I know that there are only two banks, but could we get a 64MB 5V card and utilize the extra MBs across the two banks? This would be great. Please confirm.

In a perfect world they would all use the same smart media cards (3.3v DUH).
Look at it like Rolands little money making exercise .I looked into the same thing for my SP202 and I have someone I know at roland who said that 4mb is as big as you can get ... on the SP202 and only the roland cards work , But that there was plans for other (read newer) products to go to standard 3.3v Smart media ..just too late for us huh??
I think that the non-Roland 5v cards are slightly different (something about a cut or angled bit going the opposite way)
Bummer Huh?
Mind you if you get one going let me Know !!!

Please understand that Roland does make Smartmedia cards, but 5v cards are available from many other maufacturers and will work in the SP202.

There are 64MB 5v cards available and I'm curious to know whether the Roland will take advantage of the extra space. You obviously can't get extra banks, but the amount of space distrubuted between banks A-D will be incremented.

I do know that some products have an MMU (memory management unit) that will only address a certain amount of memory. In this case, that would mean that if I put a 128MB card in, the SP202 may still only see 4MB and take advantage of 4 out of 128MB of space.

The SP202's predecessor, the MS1 used PCMIA cards. The largest cards at the time were around 10MB. Now I see some Roland MS1s outfitted with 80MB of PCMIA space. If this was the case with that, maybe I could use a 64MB 5v card with the SP202.

Well, what do you think?
