Well I thought this headline could discuss questions like transferring the s760 systembootdisk to CDR or how to burn a cd from a zip/jaz drive or SCSI harddisk.

Rolands supplementual Notes on the s760 specify that "The 700 Series of Digital Samplers can not directly address CD-ROM writers, however you can copy a 700 Series Hard drive to a CD-ROM writer by using a computer with CD-ROM premastering software..." Furthermore they mention an example of a premastering software - Gear. This program is supposed to work by making a bit by bit or SCSI device copy of a harddisk to a CD-ROM.

Does anyone have experience with this?

or

Does anyone have experience with creating an image from a s-760 floppy / harddrive /zip etc. and then burnt a CD-R from that image?

razor,

If you find out anything about the subject you have posted I would be very interested in hearing it, as I desperately need to copy about dozen Jaz discs of my samples to CD-R before they crash and burn.

I read recently that Mark Mothersbaugh, or Devo and Mutato Muzica, burns his own CD-R's from 760 files - so it must be possible.

Keep in touch.

Hi, had the same question some months ago and had a very good answer. You need a program you can find at Goldenhawk.com This program has to be run in Dos mode ONLY. Windows does not recognize Roland type files. You can make an image of your hard disk/zip/jazz... onto a CDR. Only important thing, your hard drive needs to have a SCSI id number lower than your CD burner.

Go to http://www.goldenhawk.com/download/ and download the file "dao32v36.zip". In this zip file you should find (if it hasn't changed) an disk2cd.exe . It's very easy, run it and burn your cd. Also an important thing : Don't use hard disks with more than 650 mb stuff. Even if you use a Jazz it will stop after 650 mb.

This program worked very well for me. I have a Roland S750.

If you need further information you can contact me

Thank you Gauthier!

Your reply was very interesting! I have seen the disk2cd program but never had the chance to try it yet. I'm glad to hear that it works!
