I currently own a Roland D50 and would like to get a new 2nd synth. I get confused when I looked at all the new synths. Money is not a objective. Any recommendations??

Money is NOT an objective...... if money is not a problem I'm sure just about everyone on here will recommend either the Kurzweil K2600 (with sampling of course) or the Korg Triton..... what kind of music are you trying to do. I use a Roland XV-88 which works really well for most acoustic type stuff. Ask some more specific questions please. At first glance.... I'd probably say Korg Triton 88-key with MOSS expansion board added........ this'll run you around $4000 or so.

if you were playing the D-50 for long time.then I think you will probably prefare Roland's products.so I suggest you go for the XV-88. if you want a synth with a composer and sampler from Roland I suggest you wait for the next workstation from Roland, other than that you got the XP-80/60 which only have the Composer. because I think they will include that.if you heard the KORG before then don't wait and go for the TRITON at once.you will love that keyboards (I own one).it have a composer and sampler and many other functions that you will like.also check out the korg Karma. all Roland's XV and the XP have expantion slots.
and the korg triton and karma too.

so what I am suggesting? here they are arranged for you.

1-Roland XV-88
2-KORG TRITON
3-KORG KARMA
4-Roland XP-60/80/30

hope that helps you

Well...being out of the picture for 10 years, and it looks like my Atari 1040ste is no longer a choice music computer. I migrated everything to the Intel machine.
If I could pay $4000 and eliminate other other equipment that would be cool. If the synth has a built in drum machine. Is is best to find a synth with as much stuff as possible on it? I see a lot of people
running 2 or more synths.

By the way...I love your tagline ;-)

Yeah most people use more than one synth, in my case I never was able to dish out the 3K+ for a workstation in one shot.

I know many people suggest going with the XV88, it looks like a really nice board but not sure if its going to do everything you are looking for. You may want to look at either the Kurz K2600 or the Korg Triton. In either case both machines have a sequencer built in and if you dont like the drum tones they also support sampling. You could sample the drum tones that you want and do a great deal of your work on that one board.

The Kurz are now on a limited lower price sale which have them priced a little more than the Triton. But you have to pay extra to add samplimg on the Kurz. I know there are 3rd party vendors that have Hard Disk adpators for the Triton so you could add an internal HD if you wanted.

You may want to get over to the local music store and compare the Roland/Korg/Kurz workstations.

On a side note Yamaha is coming out with their own workstation called the Motif I dont know when that one is coming out.
