I finally got my PSR-550 to sound like the piano I want! One thing I've noticed about Yamaha's piano sounds is that they are really bright. Me personally I love the sound of a grand piano with the lid down and just the front part above the music rest open. It has such a nice smooth and mellow sound to it.... Even the mellow grand on the XG set doesn't seem to cut it for me. I spent some time playing with the piano sound and managed to pull of a really good mellow grand by using the DSP effects and setting the reverb just right. Just to test it I plugged the keyboard into my Roland Micro Monitors, but this time I didn't set the speakers in front of me. I set it up like a grand piano is. I put the speakers on their backsides facing up so the sound would project like a true grand.. BOY WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT MADE!!!! I'm strongly considering building a custom piano cabinet for my PSR-550..... Similiar to a baby grand with a lid that lifts.. This way I can build my monitors (face up) into the cabinet, and get that true piano sound I like... It will actually be quite simple to build and would be a fun little project... Well sorry to ramble on.. Just wanted to share the idea.....
