I have a PSR2000 that works fine except has no usb for storage etc. I was considering upgrading it to a S700. Since many of you have PSR S700's or the S900's I was wondering if it is worth the money to upgrade to the S700 from the PSR 2000?

Besides the obvious USB functions missing on the 2000 are the sounds that much better and new functions? I just use this keyboard at home. Not a performer.

Thanks,

Lin

Linda,

The difference is sounds, plus a host of other improvements, is incredible. However, for the slight difference in price between the S700 and S900, I would spend the extra money for the S900. Lot more features, better sounds.

Linda, do what I did and save some money. The PSR 3000 has all the storage you need and tons of improvements over the 2000 (which I owned previously). My eBay auction ends Sunday, but you can email me now...

CASSP, I did look at your auction. I think I am going to save up a bit for another keyboard. It looks a new as my PSR 2000!

After viewing Dnj's S900 links I can hear the much improved quality in the S900 and also the fullness of the styles. WOW!

Thanks for the advise guys,

Lin

Linda,
Going from the 2000 to the S900, you will be simply amazed at the quality of improvement in sounds and the sounds within the styles. The key ingredients are the MEGA and SA voices. They are excellent and worth the price!

As usual you have to justify the expense of an upgrade based on the things you think are most useful.

I justified the upgrade from a 2000 to a 3000 solely on the convenience of having significant on-board internal storage. I use a lot of midi files and eliminating the "floppy shuffle" makes a huge difference to the smoothness of the performance and was worth the money on its own. The USB capabilities were the icing on the cake in this regard.

As a slight aside, I consider the removal of the Smartmedia card (more exactly the amount of on-board storage you get) to be a negative feature of the 500/700/900. Given that Smartmedia is practically obsolete I was not surprised, but given the very low cost of flash memory I was extremely disappointed to find that the 500/700/900 did not have significantly more internal memory (versus the 3k) as some form of compensation!

The megavoices in the 3k are useful but you have to program your existing styles / sequences carefully to gain full advantage, although Yamaha's megaenhancer software does do quite a good job of conversion.

Having played a T2 the SA voices are very pleasant, but I don't do a lot of pure instrumental work so the extra realism, remarkable though it is, is not a big factor for me.

I'd agree that the s900 is worth the extra over the s700 and is worth saving up for. If my 3k blows up I'll be looking at a 900.
