the boxed weight is 54 lbs which is about 10 more than the PA800 come in at, so 40 lbs sounds about right

Frank, the Pa2x sure looks silver on the website, not white!

OK, yes I see it now looks white, with silver around the joy stick and screen.

The size of the powered mixer is about 8"x 5"x 4".

GK,
Really good brak down between the two,I think the PA2XPRO is better for me than the very portable PA800. The reason being a few, like I am a 'piano' play first of all and prefer the 76 keys and more'feel' in the keyboard.
Second the extra ram and features are better for my needs, but I do love the portability and sound of the PA800.
that being aside, a portable PA is a good bet (Yamaha StagePas 300), I will see if i can get a handle on a local dealer; thank you very much indeed.

The wooden ends might get me a little class!?( lol

Im happy to help. All of my arranger keyboards at my store go through the Stagepas300 . One word of warning. You might find a dealer that tries to sell you on the Stagepas500. I don't think it's worth spending almost twice as much for a little more power and slightly larger speakers. This model came out a year after the 300 and Yamaha still sells many more 300's. If the price difference was just a couple of hundred dollars more it would probably have done very well, but $549 to $999 is too much. The 300 really fills up a nice size room really well with clean power and the bass sounds amazing for such small speakers. Good Luck!

GK, I have checked out (on the Net, as it is a long weekend here) the pricing the 300 is $841AUD and the 500 is $1316AUD here big different to were you are.
As you said I really do not need more than that, I feel that to much technology is not the only way to go, even with advance keyboards - how much do you really need; but thats another topic isn't.
Yes, 8 channels is more than I can you with 4 mic inputs. I prefer the sound quality of Yamaha over something like Behringer Europort EPA800 - higher output does not always equate to better, clearer sound.
Then theres the weight issues - 76 keyboard plus extras - my poor back. This is were the 61 style keyboards come into theier own.

Fran, there's no way to argue with that logic!
